An Ever Learning Linear Idea

Time. This fascinating concept has never failed to entertain me, mostly when I space out in classes or even during conversations for that matter.
Have you ever thought of this? At any given moment in time, there is creation of life and there is loss of life.
At any given moment in time, there are babies crying, playing with their toys, laughing. At the same time, there are boys and girls who are going to school, enjoying their time on the playgrounds (Oh my bad, technology has developed, on TV, tablets and mobiles). They’re falling in love, they’re getting their hearts broken, they’re making memories to last them their entire lives.
There are students who’ve said Goodbye to their schools and started their colleges. They stumble upon the Facts of Life, all sides of it. Some are falling into the devious traps set by Life, they’re struggling to get out of it, they just accept it as their fate in the end. Some others are truly blooming, they really come out of their cocoons, avoiding the traps and focusing only on the positive.
The future leaders, economists, scientists, lawyers, doctors, accountants, businessmen, engineers all are taking action to become even better professionals than today.
Young sportsmen and women are creating their Mark on their respective fields, surpassing even the legends of the game.
There are new entrants to the corporate world, there are new entrepreneurs coming up with better and innovative products to cater to our needs.
There are thousands of people getting married, thousands more making love and having children, thousands more separating, thousands more happy with their lives not being married.
There are people who’ve had enough of their routine jobs day in day out, there are people who adore their jobs, there are people without any jobs.
Old age is creeping into many people, their bodily functions slowing down and they are unable to do things which they were able to do with ease before. The retired are in a constant state of boredom, ergo they’re trying out new things which they’ve never imagined doing before.
Finally, there are people who are going to rest for one last time before departing….

I’m sorry I dragged this out and I’m sure I’ve left out so many major events that can happen in a life, but all of what I said is happening in a moment, or rather a collection of moments.  Time is funny that way, it allows us to see all these moments regardless of whatever phase we are in.
Within the span of you reading this, all of this would’ve happened all around this world (A, because this world is so huge and B, our population is even bigger).

We see time in a linear sequence, I mean the sequence above is exactly linear, but is it really only linear? We’ve conquered the third dimension, it is only time that is required to conquer the fourth, time itself! If the movie Interstellar is anything to go by, that is…

Presently we can’t jump forward or go back to any phase we want. No we must go through a sequence, which only goes to show how much we have to learn in life before getting to the next part.

I’ve always felt fate and time are something intertwined. In this linear sequence, everything happens for a reason…
We are where we are now because of time. All these evolutions, all the technology we have, all over the course of time…

Then again, the concept of time is man-made…. I’ve always adored time, been jealous of it too, sometimes angry at it, and sometimes just happy because of it.

I wonder if time was a being, what would its version of us be?

  1. I’ve thought about this so many times, usually in the process of contemplating how insignificant we are, in the larger design. Thought provoking work. Waiting for many more fragments of your ideas to be penned down.
